Measuring Advice

Please see the examples below which should give you the information you require to correctly measure the artwork you require framing. It is essential that you supply us with the correct measurements as we will manufacturer your frame using the measurements you have supplied us and we are cannot rectify mistakes that we are not responsible for.

OUR ADVICE: "MEASURE TWICE - BUY ONCE"

If you require any further assistance please use our customer feedback form.

Example 1 - Straight into the frame

How TO Measure A Picture 1

If you are framing your picture to go straight into the frame with no mount, you need to measure the exact size of the image from edge to edge. Please make sure the artwork is lying flat when you measure it.

If you were ordering a frame for the picture on the left you would enter 400mmn X 300mm in the custom framer measurement fields.

The frame will be manufacturered to your measurements plus a slight movement allowance of 2mm.

Example 2 - Picture & Mount

If you would like a mount to go around your picture you need to make sure you allow for an overlap so your picture doesn't fall through the cut out. Typically we recommend you allow a 5mm overlap all around the picture.

If you were ordering a frame & mount for the picture on the right(which we already know is 400mm X 300mm) you would enter 390mmn X 290mm in the custom framer measurement fields. This will ensure the mount will cover 5mm of the picture all round so that it doesn't fall through the middle.

You may adjust the mount width to however wide you would like it - this will not affect the internal sizes you have entered. The external measurements of the frame will be automatically adjusted by our website software.

Example 3 - Stretched Canvas

Canvas Picture

Our website allows you to buy frames with no glass or backing - suitable for fitting a canvas picture in.

When measuring a stretched canvas please measure from the outer edges, not the middle, as the middle may have been pulled in slighty during stretching.

If you were ordering a frame for the picture on the left you would enter 500mmn X 400mm in the custom framer measurement fields.

The frame will be manufacturered to your measurements plus a slight movement allowance of 2mm.

Imperial To Metric Converter

If your measurements are in inches (imperial) you can use this tool to convert them to metric (millimeters). Our website only permits measurements to be entered in this format.

You can use this chart to correctly convert your measurements into a fraction. For example, If your picture measures 10 3/8" X 12 1/4" firstly enter 10.375 & click the "Convert To Metric" button which will give you a metric measurement of 264mm, then enter 12.25 & click the "Convert To Metric" button which will give you a metric measurement of 311mm. When using our custom framer application to order your frame, you will need to enter the measurements as 264mm X 311mm.

1/8" = 0.125 1/4" = 0.25 3/8" = 0.375 1/2" = 0.5 5/8" = 0.625 3/4" = 0.75 7/8" = 0.875
